Folsom School Community — We Need Your Help!
As many of you know, our School Board will soon have two open seats—one for a 2-year term and one for a 3-year term—and this is an important moment for our school. Current Board Chair Rich Monterosso is running for re-election to the 2-year term. With statewide redistricting discussions underway, having a full, strong board is essential to making sure Folsom's voice stays heard and that our students and families are well represented.
We're reaching out to our whole community to help identify someone who might be interested in serving on the board, particularly for the 3-year term.
What does a School Board Director do?
The job of elected school board directors is to provide oversight to make sure that schools are "well run," and work with the professional school administrators who "run" the schools. School board members are our neighbors in the community, not educational professionals. That includes things like:
Supporting the principal and staff in providing the best education for our kids
Helping shape policy, school goals, and long-term planning
Participating in decisions about programs, resources, and facilities
Working with the supervisory union and neighboring towns
Ensuring the needs of our students and our Island community are represented
You don't need a background in education—just a commitment to Folsom, a willingness to learn, and the ability to work collaboratively with others. Many great board members start as parents, grandparents, or community members who simply care about the future of their local school.
Why is this especially important right now?
With the state's Redistricting ("Mapping") Task Force preparing recommendations for how school districts might be organized in the future, this is a moment when having engaged local leadership matters more than ever. Our board plays a key role in making sure Folsom students can continue to thrive on the Island and that our long history as a community school stays strong.
Could this be you—or someone you know?
If you've ever thought about getting involved, or if you know a neighbor, friend, or family member who might be a good fit, we'd love to point them in the right direction.
We don't need experts—we need Islanders who care.
